By now, many of you are already looking forward to the Android 4.1 update for your device – but let’s not forget that there are quite a few people still craving for a taste of Ice Cream Sandwich (Android 4.0). Verizon’s HTC Rezound owners are among those who still have not received the Android 4.0 update which was promised to them even before the handset hit the market last fall.
After a few misguided hopes of getting the update earlier in the year, it looks like HTC will be keeping its word by rolling out the Android 4.0 update before the end of July. The latest confirmation comes from HTC support, responding to an email from a concerned HTC Rezound owner.
The ICS (Android 4.0) update will be released for the Rezound by the end of this month (July) with final pushes in August. HTCWhat category do you fall into? Are you waiting patiently for Jelly Bean or are you hoping refreshing taste of Ice Cream Sandwich before the end of summer?

73dpleus 07/10/12 8:23 AM Thumb upThumb down 0When I had the chance to get an early upgrad in February due to issues with my Droid X, I chose the Rezound because it was supposed to be getting ICS in Q1 of 2012, it had a 1.5Ghz 2xCPU versus the 1.2Ghz 2xCPU in the GNex and it was $50 cheaper. After this update time frame for the Rezound, and seeing how long it takes Verzion to roll-out updates in general, I’ve decided that if you buy a Verzion handset, make sure you are happy with the software on the device, because you may not see an update for it ever. On a side note, and to further emphasize my reasoning, my wifes 15 month old LG Vortex is still on Android 2.2 and I doubt it will see 2.3.

Reply DerekGuest 07/10/12 8:42 AM Thumb upThumb down -3I’m a Rez owner and I’m anxiously awaiting the official ICS release for a couple of reasons, mainly I want the source code from HTC for ICS.
I’ve also given up any hope of getting Jelly Bean for the Rez even though it is more than capable of running it strictly based on hardware. HTC must have only one programmer working 5 hours per week on the Rezound software for it to take this long to be done. The Rezound is awesome hardware but for some reason it didnt sell very well. But it has an unlocked bootloader and has S-Off, it should be the perfect phone for developers to cook ROM’s for, but the XDA forum of the Rez is absolutely DEAD!!!

Well….ICS updates continue to prove you should never buy a phone for what is a promised update soon….because soon could mean a long long time.

ReplyI installed the last two Rezound ICS leaks, and am quite happy with it. It’s a huge improvement; the phone is more responsive and uses less battery to be so. Can’t imagine why VZW is holding it up.

It is likely the delay is caused by going to Android 4.0.4, and, the global phone update. All of the leaks were 4.0.3.

Reply HaroldGGuest 07/10/12 2:00 PM Thumb upThumb down +1The OTA has been leaked since June 10th, and there’ve been earlier, reliable leaks since a month earlier. I’ve had ICS on my Rezound since back then.
Under no conceivable construction is August or even July “early 2012,” which is what Verizon Wireless promised us when we were deciding whether to purchase the Rezound back in November of 2011 or some other product.
And there is no reason for them to have held up the release — the leaks have been solid releases. The only possible explanation is that VZW’s marketing department didn’t want to cannibalize sales of other products it was pushing. That’s right, marketing new handsets to new customers will always trump taking care of existing customers. They leave picking up the detritus to the “retention” department.
Reply Brennan LeathersGuest 07/10/12 3:29 PM Thumb upThumb down +3I agree with the last poster, the “delay” in ICS for the Rezound seems to have been centered around promoting the HTC Incredible LTE, a phone which is mostly inferior to the Rezound, so that the Incredible could be touted as a phone that “has ICS built-in.” Although HTC is partly to blame, it doesn’t seem that they had a stable ICS build until June, when ICS had been out since last December. Perhaps HTC Sense integration was to blame.

26HotRodRamy 07/10/12 10:06 PM Thumb upThumb down +3I really think Sense is a huge factor, although maybe not entirely to blame. I don’t see the purpose of Sense anymore. I loved it on my original Incredible running Froyo, but it’s just not needed with ICS or Jelly Bean.

It doesnt have the 720p HD display but it does have a very good 4.0″ qHD display with almost the same pixel density (fewer pixels, but also a smaller display). The Inc 4G LTE does have the top of the line S4 CPU with much better GPU. It has the same RAM as the Rez. It does come with 8GB internal storage vs 16GB in the Rez but it also has an SD card slot. It comes with Sense 4 vs Sense 3.6. The S4 will run circles around the S3 in the Rez and will blow away the Rez in real world performance, battery life, and on any benchmark you throw at it.

Samsung is taking just as long. Look at the Samsung galaxy s II and how long it’s taking it. Until a company allows us to switch to a stock android os and still receive full support from the carrier then I’m going with the nexus devices or a windows phone. And if it wasn’t for my unlimited plan then I would drop big red!
